Luis A. Ramirez has held various roles and responsibilities throughout the previous 10 years; stemming from serving with the U.S. Marine Corps, interning at various professional institutions, and engaging in the Automotive Remarketing Industry with Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC.
Representing Global CDH, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located, has been very exciting and important in order to place CDH on the global map as one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity of children under 5 worldwide. The necessity of awareness is very important to CDH patients considering that parents experience pain and hopelessness which may arise caused by having a child with a diaphragmatic hernia.
Luis is a proud father of Isabela Luna, born with a right-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia on January 14, 2008. At the time of Isabela's birth, Luis mustered the essential resources which will begin to shape the path towards researching the nature of CDH. As such Isabela has been the main motivation behind the establishment of Global CDH.
Luis’ approach to life has been influenced by his experiences with different cultures and societies at various social-economic levels. His experience includes serving as a Marine Security Guard based at the U.S. Embassy Moscow, Russia, and U.S. Embassy Sarajevo, Bosnia i Herzegovina. Following his honorary discharge, Luis earned a Masters of Arts from the Whitehead School of Diplomacy in Diplomacy and International Relations. His focus was on Economic Development as his main concentration for his master thesis--particularly rural economic development within India through technology.
Luis previously served on the Family Advisory Council administered by the New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. The Council is a group of 22 parents from the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) whose children have received care at Morgan. The Family Advisory Council is committed to "Family Centered Care" which is completed by working along with the families and staff, physicians and administration from the hospital. Family Centered Care is accomplished through Family led projects, having parents placed on committees within the hospital, and the parents develop and deliver resident education.
