My name is Alex. I became a " runner" on Jan 1, 2009. My motivation for running the Los Angeles marathon is a little girl name Madi Doman. My best friend, Abbie, who is like a sister to me gave birth to Madi on March 26, 2008. Born and having survived a congenital diaphragmatic hernia she has taught me what resilience and strength really is. Our goal for the l.a marathon 2011 is to not only raise money for genetic research but to inspire Madi and other kids born with CDH to not allow themselves to have physical limitations.
When my daughter Madisyn was diagnosed with CDH we asked how it would impact her life. We were told she would be fine but that she probably would never run a marathon or be an Olympic athlete. Maybe she won’t ever be either of those, if she chooses not to, but I am running this marathon hoping to encourage her to never feel limited by what others tell her and to always do her best and live up to her potential. Madisyn continues to battle with the effects of CDH and has shown me what true strength is. She has been able to overcome so much and has filled my life with endless joy. I am so blessed to have her and wouldn’t want her any other way. Madi is my running partner and I look forward to training with her and doing this marathon in her honor. Hopefully we will be able to run one together one day and prove those doctors wrong.______________________________
